This might sound mean, but if you can't find something to talk about with a friend you feel comfortable with for 3 hours, they might not be your real friend after all. I'm sorry, but, I'm no chatterbox, and I could chill with a friend for hours and find things to talk about, without struggling to come up with topics. However, I don't understand why you have to be there for 3 hours.

Do you always take EVERYTHING soooooooo serious...It's not that serious...calm down...

He does have a t.v. he knows about current events. I can take food. Again...I DONT HAVE TO BE THERE FOR 3 HOURS...but I'm driving 6 hours to see him so I'm gonna stay as long as possible...The reason I said we won't have much to talk about is because like I said...I talk to him every other week.

I made the thread to spark some conversation and ask opinions....and now were talkin about "He's not my real friend"

sorry  I'm in a bad mood...I'll go now.

i wouldnt prepare and think about what you're gonna talk about.when you start talking about one thing,it will lead to another, and another and another and another until you have to go.when theres 2 people, theres always something to talk about for a long time.

Well a friend of mine got locked up about a month ago. I went last week to visit him but it was with his family there so we couldnt talk much. I went yesterday by myself and what was supposed to be a 90 minute visit turned into a 150 minute visit.

Its really not hard to make conversation as there is alot he/she can tell you about being inside and how they feel. Then also you can discuss your life outside. Most of the 2.5 hours I was there we were laughing. Good to keep their sense of humour in there.

it seems like you are nervous around this person
I'm not...maybe I am...I dated him a few years ago. Not that I still have feelings for him...but it's weird. I thought I knew him and I obviously didn't. It's complicated...but I go to see him next week...

No I've vistited him before...It was no big deal but at the end it was kinda weird bcuz I'm going home and he's going back to a cell...It's hard to leave there and feel like you haven't accomplished anything or done any good.

The thread started as a joke but I had to put some sort of question in it or I woulda been a free-poster...shh dont tell ;)

What are some good topics to discuss during a 3 hour visit??? I can't really say "What you been up to?"

I'm probably late, but just talk to him like normal, let him know how you've been and what's new with you, talk to him about the people who you know in common, joke and laugh about the old times (reminiscing is always fun)

Most importantly, don't treat him any different than you did before he went to jail, he's still the same person, and no one wants to be treated like they aren't due to the circumstances.
