what is so insane about it?

the only thing that i wouldnt really agree with in the bill is the wire taps but everything else seems to be a new way to fight people breaking copyright laws

The only people that benefit from Copyright infringement laws are people who have too much money. All people involved in the production (including actors and artist) still get paid their contracted amounts. Im not saying its ok to pirate material, but piracy has its benefits;

I download 2Pac songs on the net, I enjoy them, so I go and 2Pac albums.
I download Xzibit songs, I enjoy them, so I buy his albums and go to his concerts.
I downloaded Akira, I enjoyed it, so I went out and bought the DVD box set and figurines.

i get that, but the industry has been crying for new ways to crack down on pirated material. it seems like they are getting it. i doubt anyone will really get life in prison for using pirated software or other material. maybe repeat offenders that distribute pirated shit will

That is different, people that profit from it should be convicted. But people who download for their own enjoyment should be left alone. MP3 is the most powerful promotion tool in the world.
