^^ I think you're dumb. or, you have never lived in a shitty neighbourhood and just cant relate.
Here Ill point something obvious out to you:
"I’m actually in the process of trying to move. Sure its mainly to do with trying to better my lifestyle and move on, but deep down inside I know a large reason for it is the consent self doubt when asked where I live by a boss, girl or her family, or someone obviously better off. Yet somehow I love this area, I went to school here, my friends live here, but I hate it at the same time. I hate how it makes me feel inadequate in the grand scheme of things, as if I don’t belong in the wider spectrum of human economical existence. No one who is a success came from here, and if they did they sure as hell moved on. Sell outs. Right? Not to mention the fact that I live here means I must be illiterate, dumb, and unable to string together a coherent sentence let alone be a productive member of society."
Im commenting, in that paragraph, on how quickly we will label people sell outs, for moving on to bigger and better things, yet deep down we all want to move on as well. We, as in the hip-hop community, or as in people from poorer areas.

Area as a method of social status is about as superficial a standard of measurement as I have ever known. But you are right in the sense that is not only a concept by which well-to-do discriminate against those who are not, it is just as much a method by which reverse discrimination occurs. It is a sad point of reality that materialistic displays of economic status is the basis by which we judge, (is it even about that though, I guess it is more about percieved status - often ill-perceived too) but if not that, then what - society has an inherent tendency to devalue and make inadequate the circumstances of others... and what for, to bolster one's own self worth...

The "Rep Yo Hood" at the end is in brackets because it is a quote, one that I hope readers will ponder on. Is it valid or not? Should we rep our 'hood or not?
Its a sarcastic end that will either leave the reader agreeing with it, or disagreeing with it.
I gathered that from your tone and expression in the last paragraph it was sarcastic, but I was putting in my 2 cents worth about it.... that it is not a particularly helpful message being sent out by society as it serves to perpetuate the cycle of socio-economic discrimination by legitimising prejudice in a reverse sense (but you know the ironic cycle anyway).

Who is "we"? I'm a hip hop fan, and I don't think moving on to better things means selling out. Although rap artists nowadays like to think so, I know I don't and I know many others don't tend to think so as well. Now, although I know the "Rep yo' hood" is in sort of a sarcastic tone, I would like to know how does somebody go about repping their hood.
I've never been the type to rep where i'm from to be honest. Why? Because no matter where you live there are all kinds of people. The real people, the bitches and all other kinds. I'd rep where I was from if it was filled with real people, but what place is actually like that? In my opinion, too many people are proud of where they are from. See what i'm saying? When it comes to being proud about certain things, I just don't really believe in it. Ok, so some white dude does some good for the world, should I be proud to be white? Not when I turn around and I see some white dude rob a liquor store. The same goes for a black person, hispanic and anything else. It's hard to be pround of something these days.
