Why ask them? I'm speaking out of my own personal experience, which is quite extensive on the alcohol front. And for me, and everyone i know who likes to "drink", it is simply true.
Sorry, this is utter bullshit. Not all people drink to get drunk. I can enjoy a good beer any time. Not to get drunk, but because it like it. And that was the case already years ago. I like the taste of a good beer, like i like a good steak, a good fish or good nasi goreng. I like it. Sometimes i drink to get pissed, sometimes I enjoy a good beer in the company of my friends to enjoy the good beer.
I understand perfectly what beReal is saying. Though i might not agree with him, i see where he's coming from. And i see his position on alcohol.
Alcohol is a funny drug. I'd classify it as a hard drug absolutely. But its so nuanced in it's use. It's not like crack, cocaine, ecstacy, heroin or speed, where you take it for it's effects. Drinking the drink itself can be satisfying, unlike a line of coke which isn't fun to snort itself. Alcohol, or alcohol containing drinks, can be used more variedly. And for everyone, the way he/she uses it and for what reason, varies per drink and circumstances.
Not everyone that drinks a beer wants to get hammered. I'd consider myself an "experienced beer drinker", yet although i go out on weekends and plan to get hammered, i don't drink to drunkesness whenever i enjoy a beer. And that's what beReal is saying.
He's saying that, if my 15 year old son likes the taste of a quality german beer, sure he can have one when he's watching football with me.
And there's nothing wrong or hypocritical with that.
Have you any idea how wrong you are here? Generalisations-a-plenty.
