If you cannot communicate to anyone that your actions are fair and warranted in the circumstances, then that person will build resentment for you in their heart and would do the opposite to what you say out of unconscious spite!

Depending on the drugs the might do, but no, I ain't a hypocrite so I won't blame them for smoking weed. depening on the age of course I would get mad if my son is 13 years old cause I know this ain't good 2 start all that so early. But should I tell my 18 year old son not to smoke weed? Nope, he's a man and can decide on his own.
Also I have 2 add it's not about doing drugs, it's about your life. There are people that can do drugs and still handle their lifes and if I see my child gettin along with life as he/she smokes weed, it's ok. I'd do something if I see him slippin cause my blood isn't supposed 2 fail.
p.s: I can't believe how many hypocrites we have here, I really don't.

Damn we are gonna have some shit parents. Being a parent is all about being a hypocrite. You want to protect your children, you don't want them to the dumb stuff you done. Well I hope you are all cool parents who let their kids do drugs, infact you could sponsor each other in rehab, won't that be fun.
I'd rather be the hypocrite with drug free children who make the most of their lives.

I agree. I'd be realistic and honest in my assessment of drugs. Like I said in the cocaine thread. If you lie about less harsh drugs, kids will asume you've lied about all drugs. Misinformation is not the way to keep kids off drugs.
But I can't believe people are saying being a hypocrite is wrong. What should a parent do? Say that OK, I done crack, why don't you get an empty coke can and meet me outside in 5 minutes. I think people will find that's child abuse.
Well, pittsey, why do you act like beeing a hypocrite is the only way 2 be a good father. Ask yourself, I assume your parents were against drugs and still you lived your life your way - what would prove that beeing against drugs plus beeing a hypocrite isn't enough to keep your children clean.

what if he cant handle it? thats the other opportunity. if this happens i bet u wish u wouldnt have allowed him to take any drugs in the first place.
there is absolutely no need to start taking drugs, thats the bottom line for me. you can spend your money on so much things which are really worth the money, less dangerous and are more useful.

You can't stop anyone from doing anything... that's the bottom line here. You physically cannot stop your child from taking drugs, the only thing you can do is be there to guide and offer advice, to support them if they need your help.
Giving your child information, honest information about drug use is the only effective way to prevent them from using. If they know all the facts then hopefully that will be enough for them not to use drugs. But damn... since when has life ever been that simple?
From my experiences and from ppl I know, you turn to drugs as a means of help, you think that it will help you out from a low place, and for some ppl maybe this is true but sadly we're not all alike and ppl don't handle certain situations in the same way.

Another thing to do as parents is not overeact whilst dealing with drug problems, When i was a kid i got busted with drugs from the police a couple of times, and in the uk what happens is you dont hear anything from 6 to 12 months, then one night when you least expect it, the drug squad busts in your parents house with a search warrent for the whole house! im pretty sure when this happens to most other folks there old man overeacts and throws you out the house, which aint helping the kid in the slightest.
I don't think anyone could be mad at their kids for taking drugs, especially westerners. Come to medicine and problems with health, it is a western view to look at drugs as the first possible solution. Whereas if you lived in the east, healing would be looked at with a more natural-solution in mind.
It seems hypocritical that western media criticises the use of drugs, but really it is the same kind of people who are are knee-deep in the research into drugs and their uses, looking towards and to depend on them.

I'm not saying being a hypocrite is the way to be a parent, what I'm against is people saying it's wrong to be a hypocrite. To be a good parent you have to be hypocritical in a way. As you grow older your perspective on life changes, you know dangers that you ignored as a kid. Maturity only comes with age.
And you're looking at what I'm saying in black and white. I'm not saying do this or do that. But I don't want my kids doing what I done. I turned out OK in the end. But it was a long painful road. My parents have never really told me what to do, they encouraged me to make up my own opinion on things, to be strong and not to let peer pressure get to me. I have never smoked and the only drug I do now is Alcohol. I experimented, and I see nothing wrong with that, I'm not against drug!! But there are dangers that go with them. I won't tell my kids not to do drugs, but I will make sure they know the dangers associated with each. I also won't encourage drug use. I hate parents who smoke weed with their kids, it annoys me. LOL at people anwering this thread with "age-related" shit, like drugs are rated movies. "Son, weed is rated PG-13, so you can smoke it when you turn 13. Son, crack is rated R, so you can't use it until you're 17/18." If that's how you see it, you're not being a good parent. The whole point is to turn them away from drugs at a young age, so they'll know better when they grow up. The point is not to let them use drugs because they're of the legal age or something. Drugs affect you negatively whether you're 7 years old or 18 years old, or 46.

You can never block out drug use completely. You may want to, you can't. Or you got to keep your child in the house 24/7, but that's not an appealing alternative.
You can offer information, guidance and help. That's where it ends. Ultimately, they're going to do what they're going to do. Whether you agree with it or not.
