The first web page on the World Wide Web

#1
Q: What was the first web page?

A:Apart from local "file:" URLs on my machine (which was the first browser as well as the first server), the first http one (end of 1990) was basically

http://nxoc01.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html (DEAD LINK)

An alias was made so that this was later known as

http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html (DEAD LINK)

It is not now (alas) served but a later (1992) copy of the original pages exists at http://www.w3.org/History/19921103-hypertext/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
---------------------------------------
So:
* The first web page ever created was in 1990
* the last recently modified web page we know of, last changed Tue, 13 Nov 1990 15:17:00 GMT
* The web browser itself, called World Wide Web:
http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/tims_editor
* Tim Berners-Lee is the creator of the World Wide Web. Al Gore might have invented the internet (I call bullshit on that one) but Tim created what we do now.
*CERN a company in Geneva, Switzerland is where it started.
*More info on the creator: http://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/Kids

Cool stuff. Didn't know this. :thumb:
I heart knowledge :)

The computer game Wolfenstein had a software fuck up. They were supposed to use the word owned, but it came up as pwned.

Well I did some research and there are 2 versions to the story. So one is claiming the other one. I do remember it as a player misspelling the word owned as pwned
pwned link send redefine 126 up, 68 down
MEANING:
The past tense of the word "pwn," which means "to kick the ass of (an opponent)."

HISTORY:
Contrary to popular belief, "pwned" did not originate in Warcraft. A top Quake player mispelled "owned" and the term quickly spread to less players and eventually to nearly the entire population of online gamers. The word is usually used in online FPS and RTS games.

USAGE:
Pwned is often said to an individual's lesser opponent after the greater person or team has defeated his enemy.

Can also be used when verbal superiority is shown in an arguement, for instance, on a video or computer game message board/forum.
"My archers pwned your wyvern, noob."

"Clan AIC just pwned you mother fuckers."

(After delivering a perfect arguement):
"PWNED BITCH GGTHNXNORE"

5. pwned link send redefine 21 up, 10 down
A corrupted version of the word "owned". Originated from warcraft when a designer spelled owned wrong. Instead of it saying (INSTERT NAME HERE) has been Owned, it said (INSERT NAME HERE) has been pwned.

The word pwned or owned means to be made a fool of. This word is generally used in gaming and on the internet.
Player 1: OMG LIEK YOU JST GOT PWNED!!!1
Player 2: Shut up.

Al Gore was involved in the creation of the Internet, though not directly. He "took the initiative in creating the Internet", as he put it. He didn't sit there at his computer and do some hardcoding, but he helped foster it's development. The whole "Al Gore invented the internet" thing is usually referred to tongue-in-cheek.

Where pwned came from is a mystery. Chances are it was a simple typo, especially since 'p' is next to 'o' on the keyboard. Whether it came from Counterstrike, Warcraft, Doom, Quake, StarCraft, Wolfenstein, Unreal Tournament, Diablo:Hellfire or somewhere different altogether isn't known.

Anyway, thanks for the original info about the first site and also for the origin of "pwned" to everybody who researched it.
