Should school pay you to pass??

Pupils at a Bristol secondary have split £37,000 for passing their GCSEs - and it's the school who paid it straight into their bank accounts.

The City Academy used to be bottom of the league tables, and just gave 165 teenagers the cash reward for getting the grades they were aiming for.

It's to develop a work ethic and get them interested, says the headmaster. And it's no different from wealthy parents giving holidays or cash if their children pass their exams, he reckons.

The money comes from a government project to regenerate communities. It would be better spent on every child's education, says the National Union of Teachers. They're also wondering how come the school has that much spare cash.

What do you think is this a good/bad idea?

Hell yeah. Schools make money off of us students, we should recieve something back. For example, here in Detroit - once a school year I believe - all public schools have what is called a "Count Day" on the last Wednesday of the month. They encourage every student to come to school. Why? Because the school gets $6,800 for each student that attends school that day. I guess that's their funding.

Also, my Senior Dues package is $220. So fuck yeah, us students should definately be paid to pass.:thumb:

parents should pay money to kids, but in some cases i can see schools paying kids for motivation to try, they should payu kids who usually fail when they make A's to motivate them, kids who always make A's shouldnt get payed by the school

Yeah we get some money for studying here, not much though, doesn't even cover my rent, but it's a nice addition. I think it's great, it would be a lot harder for a lot of people to have as much time for school without it.

so it is in sweden:thumb: i think thats pretty cool. i sort of wish they did that here. even if it isnt much money it still helps out. even if you work while studying you wont have to work to pay bills, and have more time to study.

how much do you get it? when i did my english 101 paper i think i read that it is different from person to person. i might be wrong on that.

I get around 280$ monthly, for comparison my rent is 390$. For some of the more time-consuming programmes, such as medicine, I think you can get more but not much more though.
Personally I both work and take loans but I'll stop with the student loans as soon as I can get enough hours on my job to make ends meet.
