Pride

I like these analytical type threads.

Myself am astounded of what people actually pride themselves on, either externally or internally.

I get my pride mainly through my knowledge, but I always try to give it the back seat most of the time; which I think is best practice.

Does it just appeal to the ego; is it a form of ignorance; and does it spawn self-imposed peril with it being a deadly sin? Can we have a more comprehensive understanding of what pride is?

What do you associate with pride?

Acting cause of principles and not cause of otehr motivation like money has something to do with pride. I wouldn't do certain things, I wouldn't snitch on people etc etc

Further, I can be proud of some things I've done - so pride has something to do with my work ethic I guess, beeing willing to fight through no matter what. I ain't givin up, you know what I'm sayin.

I think pride is a very ugly thing, maybe the reason i hate it so much is because when i see people's pride showing it reminds me of my own pride?maybe im not sure about that. but no matter how much anythnig annoys me or irratates me if i sit down and think about it i think peoples deep down intentions are not ugly.

i beleive alot of the time when people are showing their pride they do it to get attention, as society is set up in a way, generally, that if u stay quiet and stay normal, ur not gonna get noticed for anything. or some people i know when u meet ther parents u understand where the pride came from. so can i really get annoyed with them? i suppose this becomes a disscussion about how much we actually determine ourselves, hw much is nature and nurture etc etc

How is it bad to have pride to be where you're from or who you are?

It's a great thing I believe. Especially if you're pride doesn't hurt anyone.

One of the teachers that I look up to the most defined pride as this:
Punctuality
Responsibility
Integrity
Dependability
Enthusiasm

I like to go by his definition.
