First of all i did tread like this some time ago.
Secondly i've got alot to say in it

First of all i have to tell you that i'm training taekwondo ITF. I've got private trainings with my master who is most respected trainer in Poland.
I have to disagree to you're opinions on taekwondo.
First of all Taekwondo outside europe and Asia is on shitty level.
Second.. There are many styles of taekwondo like WTF, ITF,GTF etc
I suppose you're talking bout WTF when speaking bout fighting mostly with legs and do kata's all the time.
ITF is strictly battle, like kickboxing but on a higher level.
Polish ITF is the best in the world except Korea so maybe that's also why trainings may look a lot different. Ppl look at TKD like it's a sport where ppl kick each other etc. In ITF there are also grapples and everything u need to fight in short distance like knees and ankles. But i have to agree that it's the best in long range combat because there is no better unarmet martial arts when opponent is like 2m from you. I've sparred with many ppl from other martial arts and in long distance it was funny when i done everything i wanted with them and they didnt knew what to do. Fighting in elevators also are easy to win as the amount of grapples/knees we use is enough. Also what i have to add that it is not the martial art.. it's a fighter who is better or worse. And also reaaaally much depends on the trainer. I'm proud of mine. Peace
