How to tell your fat friend that he's fat?

But seriously, if he's catching an attitude, he probably sensitive about the subject. Approach him when no one else is around so that he doesn't feel attacked. If you're sincere and not joking around, he should perceive you as so and give you an honest response. Offer to work out with him or something. Give him some tips on eating better, etc. Be supportive.

hey dude. don't get frustrated or anything, but i have to talk to you about something. i don't know what happened to you lately, but damn you gotta stop the fast food or go get some training because you are getting fat. i'm not saying this to make you look ridiculous, i'm only saying this for your own sake. and that i believe it's better to take care of this matter right now before it's too late.

i'm 250lbs or around there. if someone told me i was fat i'd say yeah, what's your point. then again, i'm not overly fat, i'm just chubby. or well build 
anyway, point being that when you're really fat it's not so easy to do something about it. you gotta break him down and make him cry and ask you for help tho lol, or something that would function as an equivalent. you need to get it through his system without making him feel like you are forcing him or something, and then you need to keep pushing him and helping him through the shit even if he gives you an attitude. that is, if you're at all able to get him to do something about it. me, i'm not gonna do something about my weight. i can't say what's gonna happen in the future if i get fatter, then maybe i'll want to do something about it, but right now i can honestly say i don't give a fuck. it's not holding me back in any other way than i need a while to catch my breath if i'm running. but hey now, how often do i run anyway?

It's just, this is a situation in which you do not beat around the bush.. you need to very direct... If somebody is over weight, you need to be honest.. tell the person that this is not about how they look, its about their health.. and if their health improves, they will feel better about themseleves.. reverse psychology in this case is poo'
I agree with him on this. There's a time to be blunt and a time to be careful of someone's feeling. With someone's appearance and self esteem you should take their feelings into consideration. Especially if this is a friend of yours. For all you know, he might be eating and gaining weight so much due to the fact that he's not happy with how he looks. Therefor, attacking him with have the exact opposite results of what you want.
despite what a lot of people might think, this often defeats its own purpose. pinching him would probably lead to a lot of embarassment and depression because of the overweight. this would in turn put him in a vicious cycle of thoughts that would make him less motivated. probably.
an idea similar to this would actually probably prove to be a lot more effective. you have to make it very much less appearent what you are doing though. i dunno how smart this person is, but.

the human brain is weird some times. although the choice is there, in making it is where the problem lies. on the contrary, i think it's a nice gesture that he wants to help out his friend. being overly obese is like smoking, and who ever gets to light up a cig without someone making a remark about it?
