Jurors Deliver Guilty Verdict In Lipham Murder Trial
After a little more than an hour of deliberations, jurors found Jimmy Lipham guilty of murder. The Glenburn man was on trial for killing David Langway of Winterport and dismembering his body.
Closing statements wrapped up at about 10:30 Thursday morning. After a short recess, the jury began deliberating.
On Wednesday, Lipham took the stand in his own defense and testified that the killing was an accident.
Lipham says Langway was walking in front of him as they went through the woods to illegally shoot a deer.
Lipham says he tripped and accidentally shot Langway.
He said he then panicked and ran out of the woods without telling anyone what happened.
Lipham says several days later he went back into the woods to try to bury Langway's body. He says he couldn't dig a hole deep enough, so he dismembered the body with an ax.
