How safe are these programs?

Can someone tell me which programs are the safest & which have the biggest database ie. most users, most music.
I've never recieved a virus from Ares, whereas I have from Kazaa and limewire. Ares has one of the largest file sharing database as it imports of all your other downloaded files from e.g limewire into it's own folder.

I was just reading their risk section & it sounds as if they are legit & work with law.

Does this mean I'll have to pay for tracks or that they will just snitch on me if I download music & it infringes on copyrights?

What about them working in conjunction with the law?

They say,

Such actions can be violations of copyright laws and subject the user to criminal and civil penalties

I can't help but feel they will snitch.

Basically the statment interpets into 'Use ares at your own risk' (which is the same with most p2p's)
Nah, i've been using it for seven months now and they havn't snitched on me, I think they have just post that statement to look more offiicial and incase they become investigated they can quote that statement and say they have warned users.

You appear to have to fill out a lot of information to get this shit up & running......is this normal?

If so, forgive me for being a worry-wart.

Edit - It seems to be OK. What difference does the 'quality' column make? Any other tips for me?

Yea that's normal, you have to put in a nick name to use the chat feature and selecting your connection speed, informs people what speed your connected at so they choose who's gonne be the fastest for them to d/l from.

I nearly always used advanced search, i.e when a want a song I put in the artists name as well as the song title. Try to download the file with the greater number of users or stars, it will download faster.

EDIT: The quality column doesn't really matter every track I've downloaded regardless of the quality sounds the same (i.e I cant tell the difference) but it's supposedly better quality. The higher the quality though the larger the track is.
