Today marks the 20th anninversary of this horrible disaster.Id like to say RIP to tthe people that have died as a result of it and remember those that are suffering from illness caused by the radiation.

It should never have happend. How could people have been so stupid. They had staff at the plant that didnt really what they were doing. They broke loads of safety guidelines whilst carrying out an experiment. The reactor which exploded(Reactor 4) had design faults, probably as a result of cost cutting in its construction.Radioactive waste is still bing released from the reactor even today.

Was watching a program the other day about sick kids in Belarus and Ukraine. Its is horrific how deformed some of them are as a result of radiation still present in the air.Nearly had me in tears. All over complete and utter stupidity that should never have happend.

Seriously?

I cant understand why governments have to use this means of energy.Their are plenty of other resources that can be harnessed.I guess its cheap and thats all that matters.Doesnt matter if an accident like this occurs.Like the English governments insistance on using Sellafield. If anything happens there like Chernobyl then were all fucked. And it could happen.

Technology has come a long way since the eighties. Current reactors are much safer, the type used in Chernobyl is never used in the West anyway.

It's not cheap either. Building the plant costs muchos dineros. However, once it's up and running, say hello to clean energy (nuclear waste not included).

Ultimately I think it's the sun that's going to provide us with juice in the future, but until then, nuclear plants are a good alternative. Better than burning coal or oil or gas.

I understand that nuclear power plants are operated in a much safer manner nowadays than 20 years ago,but all it takes is a terrorist attack and we are fucked.Terrorists could target the, especially a plant like Sellafield.
