somethin you could do is the next 10 newbies that sign up and join the board. send them a PM telling them their in a drawing for a chance to win VIP, but the only way to be eligible is you keep posting if you dont post than that eliminates you. to the newbie their thinking hmm i have a chance to win a membership but i gotta stay active. I KNOW you cant do this forever just do it for like the first 4 months. i understand free VIP's cost money. But its just an idea.

The problem that most 'ogs' had with this forum during the 'great fire' of early 06 was the strictness of the mods and admin.
Everything was supressed to the point this forum was as about interesting as watching grass grow. Noobs coming in found it boring as the members who had interesting personalities were simply not around to deepen the interest of a floating noob.
Actually, that's when the board was interesting. The in-crowd factor was at its highest peak before I even joined the board but in 2003, it was high too. That didn't make me want to leave. I found it interesting that members knew about each other and exposed each other. There was a certain realness element to this board. If you faked who you were, you had no place here. I don't want a board where I can drop in, say what I want, and maybe get two objective replies. I want a board where I can diss a member that I know something about. We are more than usernames here.

The days when the modding was strict were great because people were penalized for freeposting and had to make sure their post content was relevant. Banned members who came back would get rebanned without a chance for rehabilitation or change of ways.

But, I agree that the "interesting personalities" factor is not as high. People here now are not as interesting (i'm not saying I am), and don't devote too much effort in livening up threads.

The problem with this board is that it's not 2pac oriented and it has no orientation. News section is weak, download section is weak, everything is weak, but the members here.

mods banning people left right center, threads being closed due to bias opinions and no real reason behind it. it got tiring, i knew the board would get slow as fuck like it has been all year if certain people kept modding on the board. For every thread I re-opened, every member I unbanned and talked too it was guaranteed that another mod would have a hissy fit like a sissy bitch and make sure they got their way.

where are the new members? Allhiphop.com, Sohh.com, Undergroundhiphop.com, OZhiphop.com and other such sites.

I think we need more structure.....we need to do something that is guaranteed to work...something we've done before and we know has succeed...we need to work on the pac section..thats what brought ppl to the board before..and this is what will bring them back.

also joining sites wouldnt be a bad idea at all. remember www.2pacremix.com? they got shutdown. well what happends if we gave them our mixemup section subforum...imagine the amount of traffic we would have just in that section alone.

we dont need to worry about news and reviews as much because you can get that from every website. we have to offer something that other websites dont (porn lol jk).

we can't beat them, so lets join them. what can we do to make streethop stand out? we need to join forces with other websites. we need to build StreetHop Entertainment. StreetHop.com is old news, people arent paying attention to it that much like they did with hitemup.com

lets merge with other websites. one of the reasons i think streethop isn't as successfull as hitemup is that we have too many sections that not many people are interested in posting in.

its not that we need to change things around on the site (as much) its the people that are on the website that need to change. we need to bring a different crowd in. lets merge hip-hop sites. more traffic, new people, more staff. more staff members. less worries for Rukas and the new owner..

we need to do these things..i think its the best way for StreetHop to grow. i want to be posting here when i have kids talking about the next 2pac album in the year 2031 where amaru finaly releases all the Og's in a box set. so if u want to be here for that then we better do something now

lets do it.

Sounds good but when people make suggestions like this it's usually me that has to do all the work. I dont want to do all the work. So make it happen and sure.

Personally I think a big part the forums hasnt had too many new members stickin around is cuz the Actual Streethop forum has been dead. I remember when i first joined that section used to be live as hell. I hadnt even checked out 'Our Block" till longg after. And the reason I dont post much on Our Block was for reasons Rukas stated, the whole inside jokes and all that. To me whatever thats cool, if members been around long enough to know eachother and have inside jokes thats a good thing, but at the same time new members cant really jump in and be involved.

I know theres dudes that try n keep the streethop section live (ie Linx! and 7Syns) and half the time I cant contribute much to their discussions cuz I dont have my own computer and I cant be downloading the song or album thats being discussed. But for real I think ppl need to keep posting shit. Listen to an album? Start a discussion.. Heard of a new artist? Start a discussion. It might be slow start off with but ppl will start peepin that shit and gettin involved if we become a good source for hip hop info (and that doesnt always have to be in news format)

Ruk, did you change the location of D4L? Thats not right, dont make it no sub-forum. It deserves more than that. lol

Btw.: I think a big loss for the site was the death of the Mixemup section.
