Shame on you Duke. SHAME ON YOU

I recently introduced Duke to the world of 959's. I think he very much appreciates the engineering of a porsche. One of the greatest cars ever built by man... and only those who know there cars well know about the 959's.

Well, looking at them, they aren't the greatest looking porsche.

But what was underneath was a wild untamable BEAST, look at the specs (and keep in mind this is 22 years ago)
0-60mph: 3.6 seconds (US version: 3.5s)
0-100: 8.3
0-125: 12.7
0-140: 19.0
0-1/4 mile: 11.8s @119 mph
Top Speed: 198++ mph

All from a 6 cylinder car. An engineering Mona Lisa, A mechanical Starry Night.... Better than sex, a piece of art.

You did not introduce me to the world of 959's, wanker:mad:. I knew about that car, i just didnt recognize it from its numerical designation.

But yes, its a nice engineering job for a mid eighties car. Compared to present day supercars it's not the fastest, but then again, it only has about 450 bhp (only :) ) which it uses pretty well.

But really, while it's a solid engineering achievement, it's not ground shattering. Yes, Porsche used many new technologies, like a sequential TT set-up and 4WD system. But in the end, it's really not that horribly fast. It's fast in 0-60 because of the superb traction off the line that 4WD offers.

But compared to it's direct rival, the F40, it lacks straight line speed (F40 does 0-100 in 7.8 and 0-140 in 14) and when it comes to the twisties, has way too much weight to lug around. The F40 obliterates the 959 there.

But after all that, a F40 isn't a car you want to use for commuting. The 959 was still comfortable and would allow you to dawdle along in gridlock. That was in essense it's greatest innovation.
