Familiar with this?

"The Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, is dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements."

It's a privately held company and has a pretty good reputation of re-releasing quality films.

Anyway, my goal is to watch the whole collection(A bit less than 400 films) by the end of the year. I've seen about 10 or so that are on the list at the moment.

I don't believe in seeing all the best, or reading all the best, as fast or as soon as I can. I think the best should be distributed throughout a lifetime. Otherwise, everything is downhill from then on. Also, you should see a classic every now and then as a contrast to everything else. That's how it became a classic. Seeing great films back to back will not give you a correct perspective on them. You have to be ready for some films, at different stages of your life to see the greatness of something.

Great movies are ones you discover for yourself. The greatest movies to me are the ones I wasn't expecting to find great. I wasn't setting myself up with expectations because "this is in the Criterion Collection." Or "this is on the AFI (Amer Film Institute) list of the 100 greatest films of all time." Do that to a movie, and I'm bound to not think it was that great. Yet if I didn't know anything about it, I might see it in it's proper perspective.
