My little brother wants to buy an electric guitar. He doesn't have any experience with guitars and he might end up barely using it so we want to buy a cheap one on eBay. Just has to be good enough to practise on, he can buy a better one later on.

I found this:

I have 0 knowledge of guitars so some advice would be great. This particular auction has expired but I'm hoping it will be up again.

I love you.

how much are you looking to spend

i started out on a piece of shit no named brand from the jc penny catalog that cost like 100 bucks. its actually not that bad i still have it today. fender makes good guitars for people stating out under the squire name. i think you can buy them for under 200 bucks. like pacaveli was saying ibanez makes a good guitar too. they have a start package guitar and amp combo you can get for 200. the guitar that comes with it is a GAX model. it is actually pretty nice for a the price. i used to play with one when i would take lesson in high school on days i didnt feel like lugging my guitar from my house to the guitar store.

check out sweetwater.com or musiciansfriend.com for their guitar package deals. you can get a guitar and amp combo for under 200 bucks depending on the make. those are great for a person just starting out. if you have a guitar center around where you live you can try there. most of those guys work on commision and you can haggle the price with them on a lot of shit plus they have sales going on this time of year.

Why dont you just go to Guitar Center and talk to one of them. When I first got my MPC I had no idea what to get but they helped me out a lot, I'd say go there.

I'm from Euroland, I don't think they have those stores here. I was hoping eBay would be cheaper (especially with the foreign exchange rate) than buying one in the store. I'll be in Amsterdam in 2 days so I guess I'll check there for any deals like you guys said and compare prices with the stuff I find on eBay. He's looking to buy a cheap, decent guitar since he can't play for shit anyway. And if he decides to buy a new one I'll just take his old one.

EDIT: problem solved. Shipping costs 3x as much as the guitar and I can't be fucked browsing for anything else. Guitar shop it is!
